Australian Foreign Minister Encourage communal relations with Indonesia

VIVAnews - Foreign Minister of Australia, Bob Carr, assessing that country's relationship with Indonesia is now in a phase most closely. But the need to involve the relations between communities and antarpebisnis of both countries.

"Relations between governments are in historic levels as more and more officials and visits by ministers to consult and open cooperation. However, I see the relationship between residents still needed more," Carr said when opening the Indonesia-Australia Dialogue Annual City of Sydney today. The dialogue involves a number of businessmen, academics, media, and education practitioners during 3-4 March 2013.

Carr saw many lack knowledge of the development of the two countries among the public, both in Australia and Indonesia alone. "In fact, communication between residents represent a real situation for the development of Australia-Indonesia relations. Intergovernmental relations are strong and continue to be improved, but also the relationship between residents need," said Carr.

So he considered that the two governments should expand student exchange programs and academic circles. Kontar antarpebisnis also need to be encouraged to address any misunderstandings.

Carr noted that, in the eyes of Australia, bilateral relations with Indonesia currently faces three key issues, namely the problem of livestock exports, detention of Australians in Bali, and human trafficking. "However, I believe that such issues can be addressed together well when kept open consultation and dialogue," said Carr.

On the Indonesian side, this time the dialogue was also attended by former Foreign Minister, Hassan Wirajuda, Indonesia's Ambassador to Australia Nadjib Riphat Kesoema, and Consul General to Sydney Gary Joseph and others.
