Interpol urged to Capture the Sultan of Sulu
KUALA LUMPUR - young activists from the United Malays National Organization (UMNO) urges Interpol to investigate Sultan Jamalul Kiram III who claim to be the Sultan of Sulu. As is known, Kiram loyalists involved in the infiltration incidents which killed eight policemen Sabah Malaysia.
Public Complaints Bureau chairman Datuk Khairun Aseh UMNO says that the young activists in UMNO has formed a task force to ask for the help of Interpol related assault incidents in Lahad Datu and Semporna. They also want to see the Sultan Kiram was arrested by Interpol.
"We will urge Interpol to issue a Red Notice as an instrument of catching the Sultan of Sulu and after that, he will be extradited to Malaysia for trial," said Khairun, as quoted by The Star, Friday (08/03/2013).
Khairun also was handed a letter of protest about the issue of Sabah to the Philippine Embassy First Secretary Maria Antonina Mendoza-Oblena. Khairun also asked the embassy and the Philippine government are working together to extradite the Sultan of Sulu.
An extradition request was expressed by the Sultan of Sulu Malaysian Foreign Minister Anifah Aman. Aman said he was ready to discuss the issue with Philippine Foreign Secretary Albert del Rosario.
Malaysia and the Philippines does not have an extradition treaty. Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Raul Hernandez explained Philippines, Legal Cooperation Agreement between the Philippines and Malaysia, as well as a number of other ASEAN countries, can not be used as an instrument to legalize extradition Kiram.
Philippines itself only has extradition treaties with 10 countries. The countries are Australia, Canada, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, South Korea, Micronesia, Switzerland, Thailand, and the United States (U.S.).
But Aman asserted, Manila to extradite Kiram with loyalists to Malaysia with the "spirit" of ASEAN. Philippine Law Minister Leila de Lima began studying the case law made Kiram. Kiram could be found guilty of violating the laws of Malaysia.
