Hostage in Algeria Successful Escape


A number of hostages managed to escape abduction by Islamic militants in a compound of natural gas exploration in eastern Algeria. Details about how they can free themselves still unclear but reported about 30 to 40 Algerian hostages and 15 to 20 foreign hostages managed to free themselves.


Foreign nationals taken hostage from Britain, France, the United States, Norway, and Japan. But there has been no confirmation of the statement and its free hostages from the state government concerned.

Algerian army had surrounded Tigantourine natural gas facility near Amenas, about 100 kilometers from the Algerian border with Libya.

Joint Operations

Earlier reports said that during Wednesday (16/1) last night shootout between the Algerian army and Islamic militants were heavily armed. Islamic militants mastering complex Wednesday after killing a Briton and Algerians.

One Algerian security officials told the AP news agency that at least 20 foreigners, including citizens of the United States and Europe, come to escape.
