NATO Urges North Korea Rocket Launch Abort Plan

Headline - NATO asked North Korea to abandon plans to launch a rocket that will be conducted in mid-December. NATO assessing launch violated UN resolutions and cause instability on the Korean Peninsula.


"We asked the North Korean authorities to fulfill their obligations under international law and abide by the will of the international community as expressed the UN Security Council and a moratorium on missile launches," the NATO statement as reported by Reuters on Wednesday, December 5, 2012.

Peluncuraan rocket, NATO said, violated UN Security Council Resolutions 1718 and 1874. "And it will exacerbate tensions and lead to instability on the Korean Peninsula."

Previously, the government of North Korea announced it would launch a rocket for a second time in 2012. North Korean government argued, the launch is to put a satellite into orbit. In April, North Korea also launched rockets and protested loudly. However, when it failed miserably and explode at launch.

Same with the rocket launch last April, the plan this time was also opposition from a number of neighboring countries, notably Japan and South Korea. Japan even has put Patriot missiles on a number of points to anticipate the worst from this North Korean rocket launch.

Not only the two countries. Russia and China also called on North Korea to cancel the planned launch this rocket. However, until now North Korea has yet to show signs shall meet the insistence of those countries.
