Reversed ship, 55 passengers feared dead


SOMALIA - Approximately 55 souls reportedly drowned, missing and presumed drowned after a boat loaded with more than the rules upside down outside the coast of Somalia. Authorities still searching the passengers were reported still missing.


High Commissioner Persekitan Nations for Refugees (UNHCR) said that five people survived the accident. The five survivors were young men from Somalia and is now being treated by local medics.

Based on the information saved in this incident, the sinking ship filled with too many passengers. The ship sank after leaving Bossaso and ended up upside down in the middle of the journey.

To date, approximately 23 bodies found in this event, including 14 women, eight men and a boy, aged four tahuh. Somalia Authorities continue to investigate the case.

Accidents of this kind is common in Somalia. Generally the cause of the accident caused by the negligence of the owner of the ship or the ship that are not well maintained. (Faj)
