Anti-violence campaign, activists Singing and Dancing


SEMARANG, KOMPAS.com - Dozens of activists from the Legal Resources Center for Gender Justice and Human Rights (LRC-KJHAM) and some elements of female Semarang, Central Java, staged stop violence against women.

Actions to commemorate Valentine's Day or Valentines Day is done in around the Simpanglima and Road Hero, Semarang, Thursday (02/14/2013).

The activists, mostly women and some of them Caucasians were running, singing and dancing along. The movement was simultaneously performed worldwide with the headline "V Day 1 Billion Rising". In addition to carrying banners that read "stop the violence", they also spread the paper with the same message.
Muntari Witi action coordinator said the event was a creative action in conveying the message. Of which raise awareness of all parties to eliminate violence, especially women and children.
"This action is a form of concern and encourage concern due to the many women and children who are victims of violence," he said.
Based on the record LRC-KJHAM in Central Java, there have been 407 cases of violence against women during the year 2012. Of those cases, the victim reached 928 women with 26 of them died.
Three people died because of rape, five for domestic violence (domestic violence), nine as a migrant worker, and eight people died from violence in dating.
Through these actions, Witi said, there is also a message to the government to commit itself concretely in the prevention and elimination of violence through public awareness. Governments, both national and local, are also required to provide and facilitate access to complaint handling and recovery of victims and accountability mechanisms firmly on the perpetrators.
"We hope what we are doing in this Valentines Day can inspire all parties to work together to eliminate violence on women and children," he said.
Creative action with musical accompaniment was only guarded by several police officers. The activists also took a number of road users to sing and dance together as a creative form of concern to convey the message of nonviolence.
