Fever Meteorite Hit Russia


Headline - Denomination meteorite that hit the Ural region, Russia, on Friday, attracting the interest of many people. Currently, a small meteorite fragments that might be more valuable than gold.

The meteorite collectors and scientists together to hunt meteorites pieces left around the meteor crash site, in the city of Chelyabinsk.

According to some researchers, exploding meteor split into seven pieces and hundreds of tiny pieces. One large fragment fell into Lake Chebarkul and form an ice hole measuring eight meters.
"Some collectors are willing to pay dearly for the stones," said Dmitry Kachkalin, Member of Russian Society of Amateur Meteorite Lovers, reported by FoxNews, February 19, 2013.
He explained that it is difficult to appreciate the meteorite. The fewer meteorites are found, then the price is more expensive. "I expect the price of rock that could reach U.S. $ 2,200 (equivalent to Rp21 million-an) per gram, four times more expensive than the price of gold," said Kachkalin.
On Monday, February 18, 2013, some Russian scientists have discovered 53 small pieces of the meteorite in Lake Chebarkul. The average size of the meteorite rocks just 0.2 inches, or half a centimeter.
"We found traces of stone meteorite on Lake Chebarkul. Seen from existing rocks ex crust melt," said Viktor Grokhovsky, member of the Russian Academy of Science.
After investigation, the meteorite fragments that fell on Friday consisted of 10 percent iron. While in other meteorites are small content of platinum and gold. "But, no matter meteor hunter, any content from small flakes meteor rock was considered priceless," said Grokhovsky.
